Contests and grants




Believe it or not chat bot masters do have contests in which they compete against each other for fun and sometimes money. You can help support this growing field of AI by voting for your favorite chatbots here. For AI researchers there are links below contests called grants for sources of possible funding.

Contests

  • A.I. XPRIZE seem to want even more then the The Loebner Prize by saying they want the chat bots to receive standing ovations.
  • AWS Chatbot Challenge Create conversational, intelligent chatbots using Amazon Lex and AWS Lambda! 35 days to submit Apr 19 – Jul 18, 2017
  • Battle of Bots Battle of Bots is HackerEarth's flagship Artificial Intelligence Challenge. It's one of a kind challenge that will run for 7 days. There is only one problem statement in the challenge - the game for which you have to write a bot. You will be given a two-player game and you have to write a bot that will play that game against other bots. Your bot has to adhere to the rules of the game given in the problem statement, and play against the other bot. That paticular challenge is gone but at the bottom they list other contests.
  • Bragging Rights Is basically a contest of popularity and not money. But if you want to test your bot this is good place to do it. This contest is over.
  • The Chatterbox Challenge (archived site) had been going on a long time they started a year before i created this website for the first time. They started it in 2001 They stopped in 2015.
  • Diva bot This contest was open to pandora bots only and you need to pay a registration fee it is no longer being held.
  • Google Code Jam 2015 This is a competition that makes you complete a software program in a given amount of time. There is no mention of prize money.
  • kaggle This is not really a AI contest and does not look like it awards money but it does have competitions based on predictions of various things.
  • The Loebner Prize The Loebner Prize is a well known and well funded contest. They are more picky about who they let in. They have been around since 1990.
  • Power TAC Is a contest based on games for renewable energy. It is AI but not chatbots. There is no mention of money.
  • Robo Chat Challenge is another chat bot contest that is not restrictive it no longer holds contests.
  • Winograd Schema Challenge Nuance Communications, Inc. is sponsoring a competition to encourage efforts to develop programs that can solve the Winograd Schema Challenge, an alternative to the Turing Test developed by Hector Levesque, winner of the 2013 IJCAI Award for Research Excellence. The test will be organized, administered, and evaluated by CommonsenseReasoning.org (http://www.CommonsenseReasoning.org), which is dedicated to furthering and promoting research in the field of formal commonsense reasoning. Unsure if this contest still goes on.

Grants/funding

  • Artificial Life Inc. is a investor, investment scout and business advisor. They also provide technology and help for their holding companies.
  • Breakout Labs uses philanthropy to support a growing portfolio of early-stage companies in areas ranging from food science and biomedicine to clean energy.   • Defense Innovation MarketPlace The Rapid Innovation Fund provides a collaborative vehicle for small businesses to provide the department with innovative technologies that can be rapidly inserted into acquisition programs that meet specific defense needs.
  • Division of Information & Intelligent Systems Robust Intelligence (RI) Quoting from the website " The RI program advances and integrates the research traditions of artificial intelligence, computer vision, human language research, robotics, machine learning, computational neuroscience, cognitive science, and related areas.""
  • EPSRC This is uk based funding for various sciences including AI.
  • The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) ""invests in high-risk, high-payoff research programs to tackle some of the most difficult challenges of the agencies and disciplines in the Intelligence Community (IC).""
  • Indiegogo The World's Crowdfunding Engine As the largest global fundraising site, we help individuals, businesses, and non-profits raise money online.
  • kbs+ Ventures The company states: kbs+ Ventures, the venture investment arm of kirshenbaum bond senecal + partners (kbs+), backs early-stage entrepreneurs with big ideas in advertising and marketing technology. The company does not say how it helps you so I am not totally sure if it money or advertising.
  • Kickstarter This is a fairly well known site for raising funding for projects of all sorts.
  • Open Philanthropy Project They provide funding for various projects.
  • INVESTIGATORS & FELLOWS PAUL G. ALLEN FAMILY FOUNDATION This website promises to provide funding for science endeavors that traditional funding won't cover.
  • SBA Thke usa government agency that helps find financing for small business.
  • SBIR.STTR This is part of the Small Businesss Administration and you can find funding for start ups here.
